ABSTRACT
This chapter reviews and summarizes limnological studies conducted in Africa and on inland aquatic ecosystems in temperate regions. The principal lacustrine districts studied will be examined as well as the contributions from different specialists to understanding the functional mechanisms of lakes, reservoirs and rivers.
