ABSTRACT
In Chapter 7, the design procedures for linear structures with linear damping were discussed. Although the linear assumptions cannot easily be satis”ed, when both the amount of damping and the design ductility of the structures are small, the linear approach can provide simple yet acceptable designs. Otherwise, nonlinear design must be considered, which is the focus of this chapter.
