ABSTRACT

The outsourcing range is expanding, with more and more functions coming within its ambit. It is estimated that more than one-third of new Information technology (IT) development of major US companies is being done in other countries. To improve focus, streamline operations, and eliminate inefficiencies, many companies have turned to outsourcing back office functions. Walmart is a prime example of successful outsourcing of IT and operations. Walmart focuses on customer service while its key suppliers manage goods on the shelves. Financial accounting and general ledger processes, data center operations, and tax reporting processes are outsourced by British Petroleum to service providers. Telemarketing and call centers have been set up by a host of international companies to outsource customer support and telemarketing services in an efficient manner at very low costs. Services offered by the supplier help in turning potential candidates into clients and these clients/customers into advocates.
