ABSTRACT
This chapter explains the nature and properties of remotely sensed data, its processing and interpretation. The image preprocessing methods like geometric and radiometric corrections, enhancement, and transformation techniques, which are essential prior to information extraction, are briefly described. The chapter then gives basic image interpretation methods used for mining applications. The principles of classification, change analysis, and Digital Elevation Model (DEM) extraction are explained.
