ABSTRACT
This chapter explores the use of MCDA methodology in an unconventional way-to determine which metrics are best suited for determining the efficacy and success of an oil spill response. Here, the “alternatives” as they are traditionally defined are the “metrics” by which success would be measured. The factors associated with oil spills and the emergency response afforded to them are reviewed and different metrics are proposed and analyzed; the necessity for such metrics is also covered.
