ABSTRACT
What are the criteria for a project to be classi™ed as a success versus a failure? In the past it was easy for a company to see if a project was successful based on ™nal cost and the delivery date, but now these points are blurred. Descoping and additional phases help blur the ™nal outcome of the project. œe ™rst time I heard these terms was in a large company. I could not believe that because bad research, estimates, and wrong assumptions were made in the beginning of the project, parts of the project deliverables could be descoped out of the project, or additional phases added, and the project could still be successful. I’m not saying that everything can always be identi™ed early, but many times descoping and additional phases are used to hide bad research and wrong assumptions.
