ABSTRACT

A forensic pathology residency program includes the following rotations:

Admission interview Autopsy (morgue) rotation Toxicology rotation Anthropology rotation Homicide rotation (scenes, police services, courtroom) Crime lab rotation Neuropathology rotation (to include psychiatric relationships) Forensic and surgical pathology rotation (slide review) with immuno-

histochemistry Research rotation (visiting conventions and presenting at meetings) Public health and environmental health rotation Military forensic pathology rotation Forensic biology and entomology rotation Transportation pathology rotation Forensic pathology o•ce management rotation (visiting other training

sites and forensic o•ces) Forensic odontology rotation (when not a part of the autopsy or Žrst

rotation)

Most forensic pathology programs omit signiŽcant attention to digital and multimedia services, engineering sciences, jurisprudence, and questioned documents all of which are sections within the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS). Note that for a period of time (less than ten years) the forensic path residency was two years in duration. I would Žnd no dif-Žculty in providing a two-year curriculum for forensic pathology, however, the realities of forensic practice allow constant learning to be a by-product of the methodology.
