ABSTRACT

In this chapter, several interesting cases that come under tort law are presented. Tort law can be deˆned as a civil wrong that can be redressed by awarding damages. Among the damages the injured party may recover are loss of earning capacity, pain and suering, and reasonable medical expenses. ere are three types of torts: (1) intentional torts, (2) negligent torts, and (3) strict liability torts (1). Under this law, if someone suers a physical, legal, or emotional harm, the injured party may be able to pursue a lawsuit. If this lawsuit is deemed justiˆed, the victim may be awarded compensation as a remedy for his or her suering (2). Chemical injury (or toxic torts) are included in this chapter. Environmental pollution is included in toxic torts (3).
