ABSTRACT

This book barely scratched the surface of the things that can be achieved using microarrays. This is a very new field even by the standards of the 21st century. Ten short years ago, there were a handful of laboratories using this technology. Today, most life scientists are familiar with microarrays and thousands of laboratories are using them routinely. Because of the breathtaking speed with which this technology has been adopted, and the large number of researchers just entering this field, this book has focused on the most basic questions that can be answered using high-throughput gene expression techniques. However, there are several important issues that seem to be the next logical steps in this field. Some results in these areas have already been obtained, while others seem just around the corner.
