ABSTRACT

The Ganga-Brahmaputra-Meghna (GBM) basin is the world’s second largest river basin in terms of runoff and the largest in terms of people inhabiting any basin. It is also one of the poorest areas, not only in South Asia but also in the world, being home to about 40% of the poor people residing in the developing countries. Development of its environmental resources is crucial for eradication of poverty and for development.
