ABSTRACT

Soil pH is a factor that deƒnes the “fertility” status of a soil, whose level determines the availability of most essential plant nutrient elements as well as in‰uencing plant growth. For most acid soils, the usual soil water pH ranges between 5.5 and 6.5, with soils that are heavily weathered being closer to pH 5.5 and those less weathered nearer pH 6.5. Most crops will grow well within the soil water pH between 5.5 and 6.5. In this section the discussion relates to those soils that are naturally acid, and without liming become more acidic with time.
