ABSTRACT
The word hydroponics was formed by combining two Greek words, hydro meaning water and ponos meaning work; the combination means “working water,” as a method for growing plants without soil. Other words have been used to describe the growing of plants without soil, including aqua (water) culture, nutriculture, hydroculture, soilless culture, tank farming, and chemical culture.
