Natural gas storage in salt caverns – Summary of worldwide projects and consequences of varying storage objectives and salt formations

According to IEA (2007) and EIA (2007a) the

worldwide primary energy consumption will in-

crease in about 55 % between 2005 and 2030. In ad-

dition the share of natural gas of the primary energy

will rise slightly to about 21 % by 2030. This cor-

responds to a gas volume of approx. 4,700 billion m³

V

(2005: 3,000 billion m³ V

). Both of the boom-

ing industrial nations that is China and India will

play a decisive role in this growth.
