ABSTRACT
This chapter is an introduction to finding fingerprints and developing them on-scene. A similar approach applies equally to developing prints in the laboratory, where procedures are performed under more controlled conditions. The purpose is to introduce students to the philosophy of fingerprint development, specifically to introduce the concept of adopting a reasoned, intellectual, and logical approach for finding and enhancing prints. The next chapter introduces and discusses specific print-developing techniques including when and where they should be used.
