ABSTRACT

Obviously, the fundamental difference between most polymer fusing of two components and adhesion bonding is that for fusing there is no adhesive present. While most fusion processes are used to fuse the subcomponents of the same material to create a final component of a single material, it is possible to fuse components comprised of two different, albeit typically very similar, polymers. In addition, some of the fusion techniques discussed will use a gasket with either particles that heat due to an oscillating magnetic field or an actual AC or DC heating element.
