ABSTRACT
Traditional methods for studying severities or loss distributions use parametric models. Two of the most popular shapes are based on the lognormal and Pareto distribution. In the previous chapter we have shown how a parametric fit can be obtained, but this is not the only possible approach. In fact, the main reason why the parametric approach can be controversial is that a certain distribution is imposed on the data.
