ABSTRACT

Streamflow data are a prerequisite for planning and management of water resources such as the design of dams and hydropower plants, assessment of water availability for irrigation and other water uses, assessment of flood and drought risks and ecological health of a river system. However, in many cases, observed streamflow data are not available or are insufficient in terms of quality and quantity. This undermines the informed planning and management of water resources at a specific site as well as at the river-basin scale.
