ABSTRACT
Communications satellites have been instrumental in providing the necessary last-mile connectivity in order to extend the reach of information and communication technology (ICT) services to remote and isolated regions worldwide. Satellite communication-based services, providing large bandwidth connectivity, could be rapidly and easily redeployed to other locations when and where needed. Internet Protocol-based platforms support voice, data and video communications requirements, and a network of relevant nodes within a disaster management system would ensure the flow of information in a timely manner. ICT together with space technology has brought some revolution to the economies of nations as well. The vast and unlimited benefits of space science and technology had extended to the fields of communication, sustainable energy, education resources and environmental management, food security, defense and crime control and industrial growth. Space science and technology had become an agent of change impacting on the lives of people and nations around the world.
