ABSTRACT

A key to success in an emergency is communications. The primary failure in emergencies is the failure to communicate. An effective approach to prospering in emergency management and crisis management, and most important for those responsible for creating, approving or sending emergency communications, is to get to know those in the —eld. These individuals could assist you in an event before an emergency occurs. You do not want to have to exchange business cards in adisaster. Your job is to know enough people who know enough people to get the job done. This is also important because people like to work with people they know. Learn the names of people across an organization, not just its leadership. Often, those who are not in the most senior position are your way to people to get things done.
