ABSTRACT
The previous chapters concentrated on the design and simulation of batch distillation columns using a hierarchy of models. This chapter presents the design optimization problem. Because batch distillation is a very exible operation and there are several ways it can operate, it is dicult to analyze all the dierent possible combinations. Therefore, this chapter focuses only on optimization of the main operating modes of batch distillation. The same analysis, however, can be applied to more complex systems.
