ABSTRACT

One of the advantages of batch distillation is its exibility to deal with changing feed composition and product specication. However, this exibility poses the problem of uncertainties and variabilities in these quantities. Further, batch distillation is used for pharmaceutical industries where new drugs and chemicals are invented regularly. The thermodynamic properties of these chemicals are not known precisely. This results in thermodynamic uncertainties (Ulas and Diwekar, 2004)). Moreover, there are measurement uncertainties and disturbances in the process.
