ABSTRACT

Digital interfaces enable the conversion of analog signals to a digital format that can be an input to a computer or a digital data storage system and, conversely, take digital data from a computer or digital storage system and convert it to an analog signal (voltage or current, thence to sound, light intensity, etc.). An analog-to-digital converter (ADC) performs the former task, whereas a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) does the latter operation. As will be seen, there are many types of ADCs and DACs.
