ABSTRACT

Training is a proven effective way to transfer both explicit and tacit knowledge. When the knowledge topic represents intellectual assets that are vital to an organization, the increased time required for an apprenticeship may remain the best way to communicate the knowledge. An apprentice is under constant supervision for an extended period of time, sometimes years. Many knowledge topics can benefit from the support of short- and long-term mentoring. Summarize the learning objectives, delivery means, time requirements, and any other information one believe will communicate the contents of the training. Cross-training is recognized as a valuable way to provide back-up practitioners for any set of knowledge topics. With the wealth of information available from so many sources, it is very helpful to have a knowledge expert recommend a collection of communication sources that will make performing the work of a knowledge topic more effective. Communications may recommend professional societies, committees, conferences, periodicals, blogs, websites, and books.
