Japanese ¨rms value technological capability-based strategy, while Korean ¨rms focus on building brand value strategy based on open modular products (Figure 14.1). On the other hand, Korean ¨rms build their competitive advantage by utilizing leadership styles and management systems that achieve a broad range of di†erentiation in terms of design, functionality by market segment and timely product introduction, and IT integration that facilitates e†ective global SCM strategy implementation. In other words, the Korean growth mechanism is characterized by rapid investment decision making and organizational execution capability through cross-functional integration of product planning, development, manufacturing, and marketing for global market expansion. Global learning e†ect is also achieved through an integrative information system that standardizes product development, manufacturing, marketing, and distribution.
