ABSTRACT

Sunshine and vitamin D Undoubtedly, the most controversial issue related to vitamin D is whether one should intentionally plan to obtain a signi—cant amount of vitamin D via sunshine exposure or via arti—cial ultraviolet light exposure. This debate has pitted some elements of the medical community against others and has led to a tremendous amount of confusion and outright hostility between groups of physicians. Our viewpoint, as expressed here, is largely based on the perspective of the pediatric and dermatology communities, and the fundamental concept that ensuring safety is the most important thing for parents in considering sources of vitamin D for children.
