ABSTRACT

To avoid the pitfalls that may be associated with using only rules of thumb in hydraulic fracturing design, modeling becomes an indispensable component. This chapter describes special numerical applications in drilling and completion that can supplement useful guidelines in the experience-based design. Focusing on the practical side of applications for formation stimulation and injection using numerical modeling, the discussion is restricted to the introduction of certain special issues associated with various unconventional numerical applications without presenting the detailed procedure and results.
