ABSTRACT

In Section 1.4.5 we introduced the possibility of materials with a negative electromagnetic refractive index. The non-reflecting, yet mirror-like effect produced by such materials when plane harmonic waves are incident on them has been discussed in Section 2.4.5. Recall that a negative refractive index material requires that the permittivity (ε) and the magnetic permeability (µ) be simultaneously negative. Electrodynamic metamaterials have the potential of providing a means to achieve such unusual properties.
