ABSTRACT

Particularly since the end of World War II, motorcycle clubs and motorcycle gangs have been a part of our American culture. The names of these gangs are well-known to most: the Mongols, the Hell’s Angels, the Pagans, the Outlaws, and the Bandidos. What often started as social and drinking groups has moved into crimes of all types including murder, rape, drugs, smuggling, kidnapping, and prostitution (Richardson, 1991). Some of these gangs developed after the Korean and the Vietnam Wars when the veterans came home from battles abroad only to be greeted by less than enthralled groups at home. Finding others of a similar ilk, many joined together in the pursuit of selfinterests and solutions of common concerns. Many of these interests centered on drugs, the abuse of alcohol, and various crimes of violence ranging from mugging to murder.
