ABSTRACT

The ”eld of transplantation has progressed dramatically over the past 60 years. The very ”rst attempt at kidney transplantation between humans took place in 1936 when a Russian surgeon, Yuri Voronoy, transplanted a kidney from a deceased donor to a uremic patient. Unfortunately, the graft did not produce any urine and the recipient lived only 2 days. Many other attempts at human kidney transplantation followed.
