ABSTRACT
Intellectual property is important to engineers and scientists because much of the value of their work results in or is protected by patents, copyrights, trade secrets, and technical know-how. A great deal of intellectual labor is invested in developing new designs, discovering new phenomena, and inventing new technologies. Without laws to protect the fruits of intellectual labor, engineers, and scientists would not receive fair remuneration for their e¤orts and expertise.
