ABSTRACT

The disastrous results that occur when the system fails is exempli…ed by the lysis occurring to Saccharomyces cerevisie cells carrying a mutated MID2 allele (this gene encodes one of the sensors involved in the Cell Wall Integrity pathway) (CWI), that fail to adapt cell wall growth from the yeast to the shmoo forms (Hutzler et al. 2008). (The shmoo forms are formed during mating when two yeast strains of opposite mating type …nd themselves at a short distance and become stimulated each one by the pheromone produced by the member of the opposite mating type. Budding is then inhibited, and the cells form characteristic gross mating tubes that give them a bizarre form, which eventually lead to their mating).
