ABSTRACT

The basic equations of fluid mechanics are nothing but the statements of conservation principles for mass, momentum and energy, which lead to space-time dependent quasilinear partial differential equations. The following steps are implemented in obtaining the governing equations:

(i) One chooses the physical principles to be satisfied, e.g., one might just be focusing upon incompressible flow without heat transfer. Then one would just be concerned with mass and momentum conservation, without the need to worry about energy conservation in the domain of interest.
