ABSTRACT

Synopsis: ƒe reader is introduced to the diverse ingredients of the Standard Model. Discrete symmetries of parity, time reversal, and charge conjugation are discussed. A description of the 61 particles of the Standard Model is given. Special attention is given to the detection possibilities for the Standard Model Higgs particle. After a short introduction to the gauge theory concept, the electrodynamic (QED), chromodynamic (QCD) and weak interaction particles and interactions are described. A concluding section describes the ideas of supersymmetry and superstrings, which will likely play important roles in future unified theories incorporating the Standard Model.
