ABSTRACT

Lean manufacturing is a system of identifying non-value adding activities, which hinder the production flow and hence affect productivity and quality (Womack et al., 1990). Lean manufacturing is predominantly claimed as a short cycle, highly repetitive system (Delbridge and Oliver, 2000). Takt time is fundamental to lean manufacturing and is defined as the maximum time allowed for producing a product in order to meet customer demands (Schroer, 2004). It can therefore vary with the level of the company’s order book. Within an assembly line, everything in the production cell operation is based on the Takt time.
