ABSTRACT

In recent years much more attention has focused on the unique needs and services required to assist children and adolescents impacted by disasters. This chapter will review our current understanding of the emotional, behavioral, and cognitive impact on children of different developmental levels and from different cultural backgrounds. It provides an overview of some of the risk and protective factors that in¥uence child, adolescent, and family recovery, and how to establish response and recovery programs that best support their recovery. Finally, the chapter will focus on future directions in the areas of research, services, and policy.
