ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we will look at some solutions associated with infinitesimal plasticity. The reader is directed to the books of Hill, Kachanov, and Skrzypek for more details and problems. These solutions are associated primarily with isotropic material response, even though at times we discuss more complex situations. The reader should be warned that there are only a limited number of such solutions and they are associated with very specific material responses. This is because, unlike linear elasticity, which has a simple and unique expression, linear plasticity comes in many flavors and, as a result, provides too complex a structure to obtain general solutions. In most cases, numerical methods are preferred for solving plasticity problems, particularly with the current computational methods available.
