ABSTRACT
In this chapter, we will look at modeling material response that shows rate sensitivity in the plastic flow. Most materials show some form of rate sensitivity during deformation. That is, they respond differently to loading applied slowly as opposed to rapidly. The classical theories of plasticity do not include this rate dependence. In the classical theories, this is because time appears in the equations in such a way that it can be scaled without altering the response in the stress-strain space.
