Problems in the manufacturing inspection system and their solutions The factors that managers generally consider most important are production quantity and production speed. This does not mean that other tasks are unimportant, but attaining the quantity target generally tops the list of a manager’s priorities. However, if CEOs are overly concerned about production ‚gures, quality will begin to decline. There is a tradeoff between the quantity and the quality of products. If line inspections are skipped or out-of-tolerance items slip through, production quantity could of course increase, but the price would be high. It is particularly easy for production managers to overlook the kind of quality problems that are not immediately noticeable. To what tasks in the manufacturing line should CEOs pay particular attention? The answer lies in the slogan encountered frequently on construction sites: safety ‚rst, quality second, and production (quantity) third.
