ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the most commonly used mathematical optimization technique, i.e., superstructural approach, is used to synthesize resource conservation networks (RCNs). These include direct reuse/recycle and material regeneration network. The model may also be extended to include process constraints such as forbidden/compulsory matches, reduced piping connection, and cost consideration. A simple extension is also shown for the synthesis of inter-plant resource conservation networks (IPRCNs).
