The rapid increase in participation in very recent years has been accompanied by a progressive diversiŽcation and sophistication of purposes and usage patterns across a multitude of different sites. The Social Software Weblog (https://www.socialsoftware. weblogsinc.com/) groups hundreds of social networking sites in nine categories, including business, common interests, dating, face-to-face facilitation, friends, pets, and photos.
