During its Žrst phase, the Web remained to be a collection of documents and services as conceived by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989. However, that was not the dream of the developers. Soon the need arose that the machine should understand the content and present more meaningful content to the users. Hence, Tim Berners-Lee proposed an idea of semantic web. With this, it was possible for machines to understand the meaning of the Web content and to satisfy users’ requests in a better way. Tim Berners-Lee in 1999 expressed his vision as follows:
I have a dream for the Web, in which computer becomes capable of analyzing all the data on the Web –the content, links, and transactions between people and computers. A ‘semantic web’, which should make it possible, has yet to immerge, but when it does the day to day mechanisms of trade, bureaucracy and our daily lives will be handled by machines talking to other machines. The ‘intelligent agents’ people have touted for ages will Žnally materialize.
