ABSTRACT

Some advantages of digital control over analog control of switching converters are [57, 58, 59, 60, 86, 87] less sensitivity to parametric variations, monitoring and auto diagnostic capabilities, the complexity of the control algorithm is moved from hardware to software, possibility of application of more sophisticated control techniques, flexibility in testing and experimenting different control algorithms (without hardware modification), better noise immunity and easy software upgrade, among others. The main disadvantages of digital control over analog control of switching converters are [57, 58, 59, 60, 86, 87] analog to digital conversion is required, word length limitation, discretization errors and greater cost of the microcontroller over a similar analog counterpart.
