ABSTRACT

The optical layout for a microscope presented in Chapter 1 gave us only a virtual image: ideal for observing with the naked eye but which, by deŽnition, cannot be projected onto a screen or to a recording medium (Figure 1.3). To capture the image, we need to take the real image formed by the objective lens and project it as a further real image inside a camera. Figure 4.1 shows how this is done.
