ABSTRACT
In the late 1950s, the rst efforts were made to develop the principles of atmosphere modication on a larger scale. The experimental work in this eld resulted in the development of equipment for industrial use. During the same decade, another useful technique called vacuum packaging was presented. In this phase, the production of efcient, safe, and low-cost machinery was very important.
