ABSTRACT

T he goal of this chapter is to introduce you to the basic concepts of computer-aided design (CAD) for spherical work and the many possibilities it offers and to provide examples of how CAD can be applied to spherical design. Very few spherical examples are provided in CAD literature; the focus is mostly on mechanical parts or sculptured surfaces for products such as cars, consumer electronics, industrial equipment, or aircraft. We assume the reader already has some basic understanding of CAD. Therefore, we will focus on approaches  to  spherical design and on practices  that maximize  the benefits of  using CAD.
