ABSTRACT

Surface acoustic wave (SAW) has naturally evolved into a dominant acoustic technology since the introduction of the planar technology of integrated circuits in the early 1960s. SAW can be generated by many ingenious ways but the interdigital transducer (IDT) has proved to be ideally adapted to SAW device and signal processing applications. The principle of two neighboring electrodes (finger pair) of an IDT is derived simply from the bulk acoustic wave (BAW) thickness mode resonance configuration. The Mason model can be adapted to SAW devices as a three port network. Delay Line Configuration consists of two IDTs, an emitter, and a receiver, corresponding to the “pitch catch” configuration for BAW transducers. Multistrip Coupler is the mathematical complement of the reflective array.
