ABSTRACT
Our introduction to discrete mathematics will begin with some problems. You should make a significant effort to solve these problems before proceeding further-it will help if you can meet with others to work collaboratively, but you can also solve them on your own (it’ll just take longer). Working these problems will allow you to discover some basic principles (the sum and product and pigeonhole principles) of counting.
