ABSTRACT
Mitochondria are organelles derived from the primitive symbiosis of archeon ancestors with the prokaryote, α-proteobacteria species (Margulis 1975). Modern α-proteobacteria intracellular facultative microorganisms, such as Ricketsia prowaseckii or Bartonella henselae, have DNA homologous to mitochondrial DNA.
