ABSTRACT
In the arid and semi-arid regions, annual precipitation is generally low relative to potential evaporation and is poorly distributed over the crop-growing season. When rain does fall it is commonly in intense storms. In these regions, precipitation alone is generally not enough to support low-risk crop production.
