ABSTRACT

The assessment of available water in a given area is the first step in planning, design, and operation of water-resource systems. Such systems may vary in size from microcatchments to large reservoirs, depending on the need and available resources. The water-related activities may range from small-scale irrigation to watershed management for agricultural uses, including soil and water conservation and/or water harvesting. These variations require a variety of approaches and considerations in the estimation of water quantity.
